LPWA (Low Power Wide Area) is a collective term for technologies with low power consumption and wide coverage, designed for IoT and M2M (machine-to-machine) communication. Typical characteristics of LPWA devices are low power consumption and data transmission optimized for small data payloads, sent infrequently but on a regular basis.
Examples of LPWA technology:
- 433 MHz: LoRa
- 868 MHz: LoRa, Z-Wave, Sigfox
- 4G/5G spectrum: LTE-M, NB-IoT
- 2.4 GHz: ZigBee
