Product description
RS-232 Full Pinout Level-Shifter is a breakout board that enables direct connection between a microcontroller UART and a classic DB9 RS-232 port. The board automatically handles level shifting between 3.3 V or 5 V logic. It also handles RS-232 signals with both positive and negative voltage levels, which normally requires an external circuit solution.
The board is based on the MAX3243 IC and provides full pinout for RS-232, meaning that all signals including flow control (RTS, CTS, DTR, DSR, DCD and RI) are available. This makes the board suitable even for legacy systems and serial devices where full signal handling is required.
Connection is made via a DB9 female connector as well as pin or solder connections on the low-voltage side. The board is supplied with header pins (not pre-soldered) for use on a breadboard.
In addition to level shifting, features include a “Valid” signal for detecting an active connection and an “Off” input for placing the outputs in a high-impedance state to reduce power consumption.
