Pimoroni NVMe Base Duo is a PCIe expansion board for Raspberry Pi 5 that allows you to connect up to two NVMe SSDs for fast storage and booting the operating system. The board mounts underneath or on top of the Raspberry Pi 5 and connects via a flexible PCIe cable.
NVMe Base Duo supports M.2 NVMe SSDs in sizes from 2230 to 2280. It is particularly suitable for applications requiring large storage capacity, redundancy, or high I/O performance, such as file servers, NAS systems, media centers, and home automation servers.
The two SSD connectors share bandwidth via a PCIe switch. The total transfer speed is approximately 450 MB/s, or over 220 MB/s per SSD when accessed simultaneously. The expansion board follows Raspberry Pi's PIP design guidelines and is designed to work with Raspberry Pi OS. It is also possible to boot the operating system directly from an NVMe drive.

Please note that some SSDs may require additional power. For this purpose, +5 V and GND connection points are provided on the PCB. Pimoroni recommends PCIe Gen 2 x1, an updated version of Raspberry Pi OS, and firmware dated 2024-05-17 or later.
