Power Delivery 3.0 allows the charger to dynamically deliver the highest power the connected device requests. Fast charging with USB-C PD is supported by most recent mobiles, tablets and laptops including iPhone, iPad and Samsung Galaxy. In most cases it is also possible to charge a laptop that prefers 45W with a 20W USB-PD charger. What happens is that charging will take longer.
The integrated protection circuit protects devices against overcurrent, overcharging and overheating.
