A voltage regulator is a circuit that generates and maintains a fixed output voltage, regardless of variations in input voltage or load conditions. Voltage regulators are available in versions with either a fixed or adjustable output voltage.
A linear voltage regulator typically has a dropout voltage of around 2 V. This means the input voltage must be at least 2 V higher than the desired output voltage in order to maintain proper regulation.
