Product description
EK031 soldering kit from Electrokit. Adjustable linear voltage regulator using the very popular LM317 regulator. The board includes an integrated bridge rectifier allowing operation from either AC via a transformer or from a DC source. The output voltage is set using the trimmer potentiometer, and the board also has provision for a panel-mounted potentiometer as an alternative. The design makes the module suitable as a flexible bench regulator, for prototyping, or as a power supply in embedded systems.
The regulator can be powered over a wide input range and only requires the input voltage to be approximately 2 V above the desired output voltage. When using DC input, the bridge rectifier can be bypassed (not required) to reduce voltage drop. Since the power dissipated is converted into heat, the regulator typically requires a heatsink. Screw terminals allow easy connection of wires. A status LED indicates operation.
