IO expander based on the Microchip MCP23017 with 16 digital input/output pins. The module communicates via I2C and makes it possible to expand the number of GPIO pins on a microcontroller using only two signal wires. Each pin can be individually configured as an input, output, or input with an internal pull-up resistor. Suitable for projects with multiple buttons, LEDs, relays, or other digital signals. Libraries are available for Arduino and MicroPython. The module enables larger and more advanced projects without the need to upgrade the microcontroller. It is suitable for applications such as driving multiple LEDs, reading a large number of buttons, and managing complex sensor networks.
Each pin can be individually configured as an input, output, or input with an internal pull-up resistor. The I2C address can be changed using solder jumpers, allowing up to eight modules to be connected to the same microcontroller, providing a total of 128 additional digital input/output pins. Each pin can sink or source up to 25 mA, making it possible to drive components such as LEDs directly without additional driver circuitry. The module is suitable for both makers and engineers developing or prototyping more advanced systems.
The module is fully compatible with the Qwiic ecosystem, enabling quick, solder-free connections to compatible development boards and other I2C modules. Like all our products, it is open source, and all design files are available for anyone who wishes to modify or adapt the design. Supplied with: Pin headers (not pre-soldered).
