EK006 is a serially controlled relay board with 8x SPDT relays. The board simplifies hook-up to a microcontroller by using a shift register. Only three wires (plus 5V and GND) is needed for operation. Parallel load is also supported by leaving JMP1 open. Multiple boards can be chained without using more pins on the microcontroller. Each relay has an normally open (NO) and a normally closed (NC) connection. When the relay is inactive, COM is connected to NC. When the relay is active, COM is connected to NO. The serial input connects to a microcontroller using clock, data and latch. For more information on how the signalling works, see datasheet for shift register 74HC595. The serial input header can be used to power a connected microcontroller or supply the relay board with 5 VDC. Note! Do not connect a supply voltage to both VIN and 5 V on the serial connection at the same time, as this may damage the relay board and/or connected equipment.

WARNING! This kit can operate with 230 VAC mains voltage. Live parts will then be exposed when the circuit board is connected to the mains, and contact may result in serious injury or death.
This kit should only be assembled, tested, and used by persons with sufficient knowledge of electrical safety and working with mains voltage. The circuit must always be disconnected from the mains before touching or modifying any components, connections, or other parts.
After assembly, the circuit board must be installed in a suitable enclosure that prevents accidental contact with live parts. Exercise extreme caution during connection, testing, and use.
