ITO is a transparent and electrically conductive material, applied here as a coating to a glass sheet. It is an interesting material used in applications such as scientific research and the manufacture of LCD and OLED displays.
One side of the glass is coated with ITO. The coating can be scraped away using, for example, the flat side of a knife blade to create conductive traces. Take care, as scratches or score lines in the glass can cause it to break along these lines, in the same way as when using a glass cutter. It may also be possible to pattern the ITO layer using a laser cutter.
It is not possible to solder directly to the ITO coating. Electrical connections can instead be made using conductive ink, conductive paint, copper tape with conductive adhesive, or alligator clips.
