TP4054 is a charging IC for a single Li-ion or LiPo cell. The circuit operates with constant current and constant voltage and is intended for charging from USB or another 5 V source. The internal P-channel MOSFET structure eliminates the need for external current-sense resistors and blocking diodes, reducing the overall component count. The charging current is set by an external resistor and can be adjusted up to 500 mA depending on thermal conditions. The IC includes built-in thermal regulation that reduces the charging current at elevated package temperatures. When the cell reaches 4.2 V, the charger transitions to constant-voltage mode and automatically terminates charging when the current has decreased to approximately one tenth of the programmed value. TP4054 includes protection against reverse battery connection and provides an output for charge status indication.
