Thyristor Family
Diac: A diac (Diode for Alternating Current) is a semiconductor component that conducts current in both directions once the voltage across it exceeds a certain threshold. It is primarily used to trigger triacs in AC control circuits.
Triac: A triac (Triode for Alternating Current) is used for controlling alternating current, for example to regulate power to lamps, motors, or heating elements. It is activated via a control signal at the gate terminal, which can be either positive or negative. Once triggered, the triac remains conducting until the current through it drops to zero.
Thyristor: A thyristor, or SCR (Silicon Controlled Rectifier), functions similarly to a triac but conducts current in only one direction. It is commonly used in rectified circuits where controlled switching of a load is required.
