Product description
PIR sensor with Qwiic (I2C), suitable for detecting motion in a limited area. Optimized for small movements. Passive infrared (PIR) sensors are well suited for detecting motion in a small area around the sensor. The module is based on Panasonic’s EKMC4607112K sensor from the EKM series. PIR sensors do not return specific distance data but instead monitor infrared radiation from objects within their field of view and activate their output when motion is detected within the sensing area. This makes them suitable for applications where equipment is automatically activated upon motion. Example use cases include home automation and building automation for energy savings, automatic lighting control, security systems, and IoT solutions.
Panasonic’s PIR motion sensors, with a height of 10.9 mm, provide space savings in designs with constrained dimensions. The sensor consists of a lens that creates multiple detection zones, an optical filter that blocks non-infrared light, pyroelectric sensing elements, electromagnetic shielding for all circuitry, and an impedance converter that generates an electrical signal. The sensor provides a digital output and uses a lens with 32 zones and a detection distance of up to 5 m.
