2-Channel Optoisolator with Galvanic Isolation and Level Shifting. Compact module from SparkFun for galvanic isolation of digital signals between two electrical systems. The module is particularly useful when a microcontroller with 3.3 V or 5 V logic needs to be connected to a higher-voltage system or where electrical interference may occur.
The module uses a dual-channel optoisolator to transfer signals between electrically isolated circuits. It can, for example, be used to control servos and motors operating at higher voltages than the microcontroller's logic level. The galvanic isolation reduces the risk of electromagnetic interference from the motors affecting the control system.
Conventional optoisolators invert the logic level of the signal. This module therefore includes additional transistors to correct the signal inversion. This means that a signal applied to the input (IN) is reproduced with the same logic state at the output (OUT), but at the voltage level of the high-voltage side (HV).
