Ceramic capacitors of the C0G/NP0 type are highly stable and particularly well suited for oscillator and RF circuits. They use a Class 1 dielectric, which means that the capacitance is not significantly affected by temperature variations, voltage, or aging.
Temperature range: –55 to +125°C.
MLCC: C0G/NP0 capacitors for through-hole mounting (THT) are available as multi-layer ceramic capacitors (MLCC – Multi-Layer Ceramic Capacitor). Compared to single-layer capacitors (SLC – Single Layer Capacitor), MLCCs are more compact in footprint, but slightly thicker.
SLC versus MLCC:
Single-layer capacitors (SLC) are especially well suited for RF and microwave applications involving high frequencies and low voltages. Multi-layer ceramic capacitors (MLCC), on the other hand, are commonly used in applications that require higher capacitance and greater voltage handling, but within a more limited frequency range.
