Adafruit FT232H Breakout is a compact development board that enables direct communication between a computer and external sensors, displays, or other peripheral devices. It supports several common serial interfaces without the need for a separate microcontroller. The board is based on FTDI’s FT232H chip with a Multi-Protocol Synchronous Serial Engine (MPSSE), providing support for SPI, I2C, serial UART, and JTAG, as well as a number of digital GPIO inputs and outputs that can read and write logic levels, for example to blink LED indicators or read simple switches. This is the updated version featuring a USB-C connector and a Qwiic connector. Any Qwiic module can be easily integrated using plug-and-play functionality. The board also includes an I2C switch that makes it easy to change the I2C interface, and a +3.3 V power output capable of supplying up to 500 mA to connected modules. The FT232H breakout has no onboard firmware that needs to be managed, which means the computer can directly use the protocols via common Python libraries (Mac/Windows/Linux), including CircuitPython support, enabling rapid prototyping and testing. Apart from these updates, the version is fully backward compatible with the previous variant in terms of physical layout, pinout, and mounting holes, which simplifies reuse in existing designs. The small external dimensions make the board suitable for both bench prototypes and integrated systems where space is limited.
