Product description
The A4988 is a compact and versatile stepper motor driver carrier. The module is commonly used in 3D printers, CNC machines, and other embedded systems where precise positioning is required. With built-in microstepping and current regulation, it can drive bipolar stepper motors with high precision and simple control using only two signals (STEP and DIR).
The driver IC includes an internal translator, meaning complex coil sequencing is handled automatically. This significantly simplifies implementation compared to discrete solutions. The A4988 supports multiple microstepping modes, enabling both high resolution and smoother motion depending on the application.
The module features adjustable current limiting via a potentiometer, allowing the märkström to be adapted to the motor and thereby protecting both the driver and the load. It is also equipped with protection functions such as overcurrent protection, thermal shutdown, and short-circuit protection.
Thanks to its standardized format (often referred to as StepStick), the module is compatible with many controller boards and is Breadboard friendly or suitable for direct socket mounting. It is well suited for both prototyping and finished systems.
Supplied with pre-soldered pin headers and heatsink.
