The Raspberry Pi AI HAT+ 2 is a new version of the Raspberry PI's AI accelerator. New in this version is the more powerful Hailo 10H with 40 TOPS.
For e.g. image recognition, the speeds are comparable to the previous AI HAT+ 26 TOPS – the big news is that the AI HAT+ 2 can run generative AI models such as large language models (LLMs) and Vision-Language Models (VLMs). The AI HAT+ 2 also has 8GB of dedicated SDRAM on the board, whereas previous versions have no memory at all, but had to use the Raspberry Pi:s memory.
The Raspberry Pi AI HAT+ 2 provides an accessible, cost-effective and power-efficient way to integrate high-performance AI with the Raspberry Pi. Useful for applications in process control, security, home automation and robotics.
Like the previous AI HAT+, the AI HAT+ 2 can run neural networks for applications such as object detection, semantic and instance segmentation, pose estimation, and more.
The AI HAT+ communicates using the Raspberry Pi 5's PCIe Gen 3 interface. When the host Raspberry Pi 5 is running the latest Raspberry Pi OS, it automatically detects the built-in Hailo accelerator and makes the NPU available for AI computing tasks. The built-in camera applications rpicam-apps in Raspberry Pi OS have built-in support for the AI module and automatically use the NPU to run compatible post-processing tasks.
