Modular connectors, come in different variants with different numbers of poles and different numbers of connected pins. This is indicated by e.g. 6P4C which means that the connector has 6 poles but only 4 conductor pins. There are two common ways to describe modular connectors: Either with specified poles and pins, or with the designation RJ (Registered Jack) which is an old standard from the 70s that lives on. Here is a selection of the most common modular connectors: RJ9 / RJ10 / RJ22 = 4P4C, RJ11 = 6P4C, RJ12 = 6P6C, RJ45 = 8P8C, RJ50 = 10C/10P.
