Product description
SparkFun I2S Audio Breakout Board is a small amplifier board with a built-in DAC (Digital-to-Analog Converter) based on the MAX98357A. The board uses the I2S protocol, which is designed for transferring digital audio between devices (note that I2S is not the same as I2C). The amplifier provides a single channel (mono) with a maximum output of 3.2 W at 4 ohms. The board can be configured to play the right, left, or both audio channels combined.
No external components are required, making it quick and easy to get started. The gain can be set between +3/6/9/12/15 dB by connecting as follows:
Gain: | Connection: |
---|---|
15 dB | To GND with 100 kΩ resistor |
12 dB | To GND |
9 dB | Not connected (default) |
6 dB | To VDD |
3 dB | To VDD via 100 kΩ resistor |
A speaker can be conveniently connected using a 2-pin 3.5 mm screw terminal (not included).
Examples of devices capable of communicating via I2S include the Raspberry Pi 3 B+, various Teensy boards, ESP32, and ESP12S.
