Breakout board based on the OPT4048 light sensor from Texas Instruments. The OPT4048 is an advanced sensor that measures brightness and color/temperature of light and communicates over I2C. Qwiic connectors make the board easy to use with microcontrollers and single-board computers. The sensor measures light on four channels: red, green and blue as well as visible light (built-in NIR filters remove interfering infrared light).
The light data is combined and output in lux, color temperature (Kelvin) and color XY data according to the CIE XYZ standard from 1931.
OPT4048 can automatically scale its sensitivity to maximize resolution, which provides an effective resolution of 26 bits from 2.15 mlux (0.00215 lux) to 144 klux (144000 lux). This range corresponds to approximately a moonless night to direct, bright sunlight.
An interrupt pin can e.g. wake up a microcontroller or activate other processes at programmable thresholds.
Qwiic connectors with level converters make it quick to get started. Compatible with 3.3V or 5V systems. The I2C address is 0x44, adjustable by jumpering ADDR to VCC gives address 0x45. Can also be used with a standard pin header with 2.54mm pitch (included, not mounted).
