Product description
XENSIV PAS CO2 5V is a compact and high-performance carbon dioxide sensor developed by Infineon Technologies. It uses a photoacoustic NDIR principle (Photoacoustic Non-Dispersive Infrared) to measure CO₂ concentration in air with high accuracy and long-term stability. The sensor is designed to ensure good indoor air quality in ventilation systems, building automation, and smart home applications, contributing to energy-efficient and demand-controlled air regulation. It can be used with Raspberry Pi or Arduino. See links to GitHub.
Function:
The sensor operates by sending pulses of infrared light through an optical filter tuned to the CO₂ absorption wavelength (4.2 µm). CO₂ molecules absorb the light and generate small pressure waves that are detected by an acoustic sensor. The built-in microcontroller analyzes the signal and calculates the actual CO₂ concentration in ppm. The design is acoustically isolated to minimize interference from ambient noise, providing stable and reliable measurement data even in noisy environments.
Applications:
XENSIV PAS CO2 5V is suitable for both commercial and private applications requiring accurate indoor air monitoring. Typical uses include HVAC systems, air quality monitors, air purifiers, thermostats, smart lighting systems, IoT devices, and building automation. When integrated into DVC systems (Demand Controlled Ventilation), the sensor can automatically adjust ventilation rates based on current CO₂ levels, optimizing air quality and reducing energy consumption.
