EK040 is a 4-channel audio mixer kit with individual level control for each input. The mixer features tone control (tilt equalizer) and individual mute buttons for each channel. The mixer is designed to operate from a wide range of power sources and works from 5–15 V, with both AC and DC power supplies. This also means that polarity does not matter when connecting a DC plug (both center-positive and center-negative configurations can be used). Mounting holes for a 9 V battery holder are provided on the back of the PCB (holder sold separately).
The level of each input signal is adjusted using the potentiometers, after which the signals are mixed together. The mixed signal then passes through a tilt equalizer, with the balance controlled by a potentiometer. Turning the equalizer potentiometer to the left boosts low frequencies while attenuating high frequencies. Turning it fully to the right has the opposite effect: low frequencies are attenuated while high frequencies are boosted. When the potentiometer is in the center position, the frequency response is flat.
Each input signal can be muted using a push button. When a channel is muted, the LED above the button lights up.
The overall level of the mixed channels can be adjusted using a separate potentiometer. The gain of the mixer can be set in fixed steps by fitting different resistor values for R16 (R_GAIN).
